one of the best parts about living in virginia is the southern element and vibe. one of my coworkers at the hospital is a strait up southern belle. she has never been west of the mississippi river in her life, was born and raised here in virginia, and believe it or not... didn't know chicken could be cooked another way than fried until she was 19 years old. 19!!!
oh man she is the best. every day when i walk into work i hear this "HIIII HONAAAAY!" from down the hall. she nicknamed me "tinker bell" and calls me "sugar boooger" "honey" "sweetie pie" and the list goes on. she has the world's best phrases that come out of her mouth.
one day we were talking about the weather the next day and how it was going to be bad, and she said.. "well honey, god willing and the creek don't rise we will all be able to come to work."
another day she was walking out the door and i asked where she was going. she turned around and said, "up a hog's butt to eat a ham sandwich!"
hahahahha WHAT
or if anyone is doing something/laughing at something she'll say "y'all behaaaave."
once i said something not so nice and she said "gurl don't speak ugggly!"
it has been the best to have her to talk to, share experiences coast to coast, and learn about her childhood and her life. like how her mama always had a can of lard on her stovetop and cooked anything they ate in it. i think that is my mama sarah nelson's worst nightmare!!!!
she is such a compassionate person, and we have become very good friends. she listens and helps me with my daily dilemmas of no importance, but she still manages to make me feel important and help me solve them. we talk books, she tucks my shirt tags in.. and makes sure i always wear my helmet when i ride my bike. i love my southern mama! i'm grateful to have met someone like her to give me a strong taste of the south, and to have as a friend. because of her... i have stated to say y'all:)
xoxo
