highlights of winter break

a long and stress free break after a long and hard semester was exactly what we needed as we headed home for 3 1/2 weeks. it was such a long time to be home, but we loved every minute. the best part of having such a long time was to not have the stress of a ticking clock behind us. it was carefree... we had forever! we had a long time to do everything and see everyone we wanted to.
we had so much fun with all our friends and family simply enjoying the downtime we used to have on a daily basis. just being back in the routine of their lives and there for the small moments throughout the day. those are the things i miss most. we had a blast playing in the snow, eating out at all our favorite restaurants, and of course... Christmas! here are some of my favorite highlights of the break...

1. going through the temple with Haylie, Layton's little sister as she is about to embark on a mission to Berlin, Germany. it was such a special experience to watch her go through her own endowment. we are so proud of her and excited for her to be an amazing missionary and bless the lives of the people in Berlin!

2. meeting our new niece Kit. you cannot find a cuter baby than baby Kit. she's got it all... chubby cheeks, bright blue eyes, and a sweet personality. i held that girl every second i could and just fell in love with my little niece.  we were so lucky to be there when she was blessed. we are proud to call ourselves aunt and uncle!

3. hiking, skiing, snow shoeing, sledding, and just playing the snow

4. spending time with two of my best friends' boyfriends... soon to be fiances! (i can say that now because they are now engaged) Meeting one of the for the first time! I could not be happier for my wonderful friends and could not be more impressed by the boys they chose. So excited for the weddings!

5. spending time with family of course!

overall it was the best break! we were so satisfied with our stay and felt like we did everything we wanted to. we are so grateful for our amazing families and friends both in salt lake and Charlottesville

a book a month

one resolution I had for 2014 was to read a book a month. that's a goal we all can reach... right?? i love a good book and learning more about the world through stories of real people or fictional characters. there is no enjoyment like reading.. so here we go! I'm currently forming my own book club... anyone is free to join:)
